Simone Biles recently showed her support for Jordan Chiles as the gymnast continues to fight to keep her bronze medal.

In a conversation with PEOPLE regarding her collaboration with the haircare company K18, Biles shared that she has been in regular contact with her friend during the ongoing situation. As we previously shared the series of events started on August 10, when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) favored two Romanian gymnasts who had contested Chiles’ score in the floor exercise finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“We’ve been FaceTiming, texting, just being girls,” Biles, 27, said to PEOPLE. “I did talk to her on one of the days, and I was like, ‘You know what, Jordan, you have to feel all these feels. Don’t let these emotions stop you. This will be the healthiest way to get all of this out. We saw what you did,” Biles says of Chiles. “And it’s an unfortunate circumstance because something like this has never happened before and it’s truly a shame, but we wish all three girls could get the medal and unfortunately in gymnastics that’s not the case.” She continued, “Do we think they did the correct procedures to come to this ruling? No. That’s really why we want that justice for Jordan and why we’re going to keep supporting her and uplifting her.”

Biles praises the 23-year-old for her lively “personality, determination, and passion,” noting that these qualities will shine through when the Gold Across America Tour launches next month.

Promoted as a “pop concert-style extravaganza,” Biles will take center stage at the event, which will highlight her G.O.A.T. skills alongside the impressive abilities of fellow Team USA gymnasts, such as Chiles, Jade Carey, Hezly Rivera, Fred Richard, Paul Juda, and Brody Malone.

In the meantime, Biles is taking the opportunity to rest her injured calf—she’s still sporting a boot—while also using this downtime to motivate her training partner from Spring, Texas.

“I know she’s not on social media, but some of the funny things I’ve seen, I said, ‘Okay, Jordan, can I send you something that I think you would really like right now?’ And so I’ve sent her little things, and it was like one of them was these four or five girls guarding a medal, and I thought that was the cutest. And then I sent her Flavor Flav’s bronze [medal he made for her] and then I sent her Lebron Jane’s tweet.” Biles adds, “So just things to uplift her and know that she still has that support all-around.”
