Heartbreaking news in the sports world: NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau , has tragically lost their lives in a horrific accident in New Jersey.

According to local reports, the brothers were riding their bikes on Thursday night when they were struck by a drunk driver, just one day before their sister’s wedding.

    Details of the Incident

It was reported that the fatal incident occurred in Salem County, NJ, around 8:19 p.m. The Gaudreau brothers were riding along the side of the road when a man driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee attempted to overtake two slow-moving vehicles. Unfortunately, instead of safely passing, the driver collided with the brothers from behind. Both Johnny and Matthew were pronounced dead at the scene.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Meredith, his children, Nod and Johnny, his parents, and their family and friends on the sudden loss of Johnny and Matthew.”

The statement continued to reflect on Johnny’s impact both on and off the ice: “Johnny played the game with great joy, which was felt by everyone that saw him on the ice. He brought a genuine love for hockey with him everywhere he played—from Boston College to the Calgary Flames, Team USA, and the Blue Jackets. He thrilled fans in a way only Johnny Hockey could. The impact he had on our organization and our sport was profound, but pales in comparison to the indelible impression he made on everyone who knew him.”

The team emphasized Johnny’s embrace of the Columbus community since his arrival two years ago, stating, “We will miss him terribly and do everything that we can to support his family and each other through this tragedy.” They also requested prayers for the Gaudreau family during this difficult time, urging for respect for their privacy as they navigate their grief.
