Prolific Actor James Earl Jones Passes Away At 93

James Earl Jones, known for his famous roles in Lion King, Star Wars, and Coming To America, has passed away at 93. Representatives for the veteran actor confirmed that he died at his home in Dutchess County, New York, as reported by Deadline .

The EGOT winner was known internationally as one of the most prominent actors to hit the stage and screen, securing two Primetime Emmys, a Grammy, three Tony Awards, and an Honorary Academy Award. His acting career began with his role in Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 film Dr. Strangelove. Over the years, he became famous for his iconic voice as Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, including Episode 111-Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One. He also played Mufasa in the 1994 animated and the 2019 hybrid/live-action versions of The Lion King, along with voicing the “This is CNN” promos.

His filmography includes other films such as Conan the Barbarian, Coming to America, The Hunt for Red October, and The Sandlot. In addition to his on-screen roles, Jones’ most prominent stage roles were in the 1969 play, “The Great White Hope” and the 1987 play”Fences.” Additionally, he served in the 75th Rangers Regiment in the United States Army.

His last Broadway appearance was in The Gin Game in 2017, adding to a legacy filled with diverse and impactful performances that left an indelible mark on the worlds of film, television, and theater.
