According to Atlanta news outlet 11Alive , 54-year-old Colin Gray filed a motion to be separated from other inmates in jail. Gray was first arrested on September 5 by officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation after he told investigators that he gifted his son an AR-15-style rifle for Christmas. GBI officials accused him of knowingly allowing his son to possess a weapon.

Investigators say the gifted rifle was the weapon allegedly used in the September 4 shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, GA. The father faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children. He faces up to 180 years in prison if convicted.

Colt Gray, the father’s teenage son, is accused of killing two students and two teachers and injuring at least nine additional people. The deceased victims have been identified as Mason Schermerhorn , 14; Christian Angulo , 14; Richard Aspinwall ; and Christina Irimie . Colt Gray was arrested on the day of the incident and is being charged as an adult. He is facing four counts of felony murder, with a potential of additional charges.

Since being arrested on September 5, Colin Gray’s legal team filed new court documents in the Superior Court of Barrow County. The records revealed that the father of the Georgia high school shooting suspect’s attorneys filed a motion for separation and to keep him in insolation while in custody. The motion claims the father of the alleged school shooter has received an “incalculable number of threats … and in some cases, even calling for the death of the Defendant.”

The motion additionally states, “It is certain that those feelings of anger and retribution manifested in the collective psyche, of both the public and the community at large are not also represented in the individuals currently incarcerated with the Defendant at the Barrow County Detention Center.”

It adds, “In fact, so many lives in the community of Barrow County have been touched in unfathomable ways, it would be reckless to assume there are NO inmates, either currently or in the near future, being housed in the Barrow County Detention, who wish to harm the Defendant.”
