Chris Brown is scheduled to perform in South Africa for two concerts in December. However, a women’s rights group has started a petition to prevent him from performing because of his history of alleged abuse.

Women for Change launched a petition on Change.org on October 2, which has gathered over 28,000 signatures so far, aiming to stop Chris Brown from performing. According to Billboard, the petition urges promoters, the South African government, and event organizers to “reconsider” allowing Chris Brown to perform at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium in mid-December.

“His concert is scheduled just days after the global commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, making this event a direct insult to the millions of women and girls affected by violence in South Africa and worldwide,” reads the petition. “When I saw the news that Chris Brown was coming to South Africa, I was shocked and deeply disappointed,” Women for Change executive director Sabina Walter told the BBC.

“The petition was started to send a strong message that we will not tolerate the celebration of individuals with a history of violence against women.”

She continued: “When someone like Chris Brown is given a platform in a country where GBV is at crisis levels, it sends a damaging message — that fame and power outweigh accountability.”

As we previously shared, Chris Brown also has a documentary coming out about him.

According to @variety, the documentary is titled “Chris Brown: A History of Violence” and it’s set to air on October 27th. According to the logline, “Chris Brown: A History of Violence” will detail “Chris Brown’s past all the way back to his troubled childhood, explores the lasting impact of the cycle of abuse, and poses the question: how does a man with such a violent public record maintain his superstar status? With expert and cultural commentary layered throughout, the documentary provides thoughtful reflections into each survivor’s experience and the psychological destruction in the aftermath of their abuse.”

The trailer reveals that a new accuser, whose identity is kept confidential, has come forward with allegations against Chris Brown. “I have not spoken about this matter publicly, but that’s the only way he can be stopped,” the accuser says in the trailer.
