Columbia man accused of fatally strangling girlfriend last Christmas is now facing third charge
A Columbia man accused of murdering his girlfriend last Christmas is now facing an additional charge. Jeffrey Skaggs, 39, was initially charged with second-degree murder and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. But a superseding indictment was filed last Friday which included an additional charge of first-degree domestic assault.

Fire damages artist’s studio
A fire early Sunday morning damaged an artist’s studio and artwork in the North Village Arts District in downtown Columbia. Firefighters were dispatched about 2 a.m. to the Orr Street Studios. They found a small fire outside of the building had extended into the structure. There were no injuries reported. The cause is under investigation.
