Last Thursday, the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States had its summer meeting in Pittsburgh. There was hope from some operators in the US that New York’s 51% sports betting tax rate would decrease. However, it was discussed at the meeting last week that New York cannot go any lower than the 51% tax rate they already have. Troy Mackey, the coordinator of the New York Assembly’s Racing & Wagering Committee, had this to say about there not being any room to change their tax rate.

Renovations complete at Stony Brook State Park with $4.5 million project
STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The $4.5 million improvement project at Stony Brook State Park officially wrapped up on Monday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced. She also announced a new construction plan for an additional $6.4 million in improvements. The next project includes a new park office, new and resurfaced parking lots and updated tennis courts, scheduled to be done sometime in 2025.

Stony Brook University and the Simons Foundation were recently named recipients of the Insight Into Diversity magazine 2024 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award. Men’s Hockey Strengthens Roster with 15 Incoming Student-Athletes

One of those incoming 15 are Nick Bernardo, a local product from Hauppauge, N.Y., was previously with the North American Hockey League's (NAHL) Maine Nordiques. Bernardo scored 32 points in 57 games during the 2023-24 campaign and showcased his standout defensive abilities throughout the season. First project under Gowanus rezoning launches leasing for luxury apartments
The first project developed under the Gowanus rezoning has launched leasing. Developed by Domain Companies and VOREA Group, 420 Carroll consists of a 21-story tower and a 16-story tower connected by an underground tunnel. Situated on the Gowanus Canal, the development includes 360 apartments, with market-rate rentals currently priced from $3,925/month for studios to $9,600/month for three bedrooms. Approved by the city in 2021, the rezoning upzoned 82 blocks of the neighborhood to create 8,500 units of housing and new open space.
