HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Gary Rome Hyundai and Baystate Health teamed up to host a blood drive Tuesday at their location in Holyoke.
Holyoke students able to get free meals this summer through Summer Eats program The need for blood increases in the summertime, often resulting in blood shortages. According to Gary Rome Hyundai, this blood drive will help replenish the local hospital supply, allowing them to provide life-saving blood products to patients in need.
“It’s absolutely needed, especially in the summertime, you know, because the summer a lot of people are on vacations. There’s more travel and unfortunately there’s more traumas, so we do have a need,” said Baystate Health Phlebotomist Terrie Villamino.
“We’re happy to host and provide a venue where people can come by and donate blood, which is really, really needed this time of year, especially and we’re gonna pay you to come and give blood,” said Gary Rome.
As Gary mentioned, those who donated blood were able to take home either their choice of gift cards to places like Dunkin’ or Chipotle or a ticket to The Big E.
For those who were unable to attend Tuesday’s event, there are still opportunities to donate. You can make an appointment with Baystate Health by calling 413-794-4600.
