HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The 22News team gathered with fans to cheer on the Valley Blue Sox earlier on Saturday evening. The weather did not stop the fans from coming out to support the local team, and it was a very special game for our station.

The tiny bit of rain and clouds that appeared at Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke did not stop this Storm Team Member from throwing the first pitch.

Our own Jack Wu opened the game with a bang, something he’s been looking forward to all week long.

“I really love the atmosphere of events like this! I love baseball, and I also like getting to meet the people who watch 22News,” expressed 22News Storm Team Reporter, Jack Wu, “Really seeing them in person because I usually only look at the camera, and never get to see the people who are watching.”

As the weather cleared up the Blue Sox took the field to host the Bristol Blues. A game their coach hopes will have a better outcome than the night before.

Brandon Seymour, the General Manager of the Valley Blue Sox told 22News, “We had a couple of tough losses. We’re right on the edge of playoffs right now.”

Saturday’s game means a lot to the Blue Sox because they’re trying to make it to playoffs this year, hoping to recapture the feeling the last time they won it all back in 2018.

Fans were out and having a good time all while rooting on their favorites athlete. Those athletes in turn leaving it all out on the diamond.

One fan telling 22News, “I would like to see a win tonight, especially against a division rival.”

The final score of the game was. And if you missed all the action at Mackenzie Stadium, you can catch their next home game Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m.
