MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Kan. — Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) arrested Codaniel Jones of Independence, Kansas, after deputies found meth and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop on Wednesday morning.
Stafford library receives another round of funding with Heritage grant
Every community has its center - that place where everything seems to happen. In Great Bend, it's the Barton County Courthouse and Jack Kilby Square. In Stafford, it's the Nora E. Larabee Memorial Library. The library recently received a second Heritage Trust Fund grant from the Kansas Historical Society. Library Board Member Shelly Brensing said the grants have been invaluable in preserving the facility.
Barton ranked #2 in the nation for best athletic department
Mark it seven straight years that Barton Community College has finished as one of the top three most successful athletic programs in the country. The National Alliance of Two Year College Athletics Administrators (NATYCAA) judges all community colleges across the country on how their teams finish at national competitions. Barton Athletic Director Trevor Rolfs said the Cougars athletic department finished second in the nation for the 2023-2024 school year.

Ft. Larned Historic Site offering campfire program on Aug. 3
Some experts believe that telling stories around the campfire dates back to the 1840s. Nearly 200 years later, campfire stories are trending in the National Park Service, especially at larger parks. Ben Long, park ranger at the Fort Larned National Historic Site west of Larned, said the fort will again try its own campfire program on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 7-8 p.m.
Bee Jays Open this Weekend at the NBC
The Liberal Bee Jays will play in the 2024 NBC World Series at Wichita State University. They play Saturday at 3pm against the Derby Twins, Sunday at 3pm against the San Diego Stars, and Tuesday night at 8:30 against the Boulder Collegians. The games will air on 1270 and 92.3.

Incumbent Kevin Cook and lifelong Topekan Robert Soria will face off in the Aug. 6 primary election for the Shawnee County Commission District 2 seat. Cool Cars, Hollywood Star Headed to Salina
They are rolling across the Midwest, and across Kansas, with a final destination of Salina. Oakdale Park will be a a flurry of activity beginning Thursday as some of the most iconic vehicles of all time begin arriving in Salina in advance of one of the biggest events of its kind in the Midwest. Cool cars and a cool Hollywood star are rolling into Salina as part of the 2024 Leadsled Spectacular. The popular car show will take over the park, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Salina Central Athletic Hall of Fame Inductions
Salina Central High School and Athletics Director Greg Maring announced the Class of 2024 inductions in the the Mustang Athletics Hall of Fame. Two individuals and two tennis teams have been selected as part of this year’s inductions, which will be celebrated at halftime of the Salina Central home football game against Salina South on Friday, September 6th.

(KNZA)--A Hiawatha resident appeared before the Hiawatha City Commission Monday evening to express his concerns about the city's tree ordinance. John Schum, who lives at 306 North 5th Street, said he recently had a tree fall in the public right-of-way on his property and was notified by the city he was responsible for its removal.
