EDISON – The township is looking for individuals to serve as auxiliary officers in the Police Department.

Auxiliary police officers are unpaid volunteer positions open to U.S. citizens aged 18 and older with a high school diploma or G.E.D. and a valid New Jersey driver's license.

Applicants must be in good physical condition and able to pass a criminal background check and interview, live in Edison or a town near Edison that does not have its own auxiliary police officers.

Auxiliary police officers help the Edison Police Department by assisting with traffic and crowd control, security, road closures, providing extra patrols in parks and public properties, as well as assisting in emergency and disaster situations.

The Edison Police Department is looking for about a dozen auxiliary officers for the upcoming Auxiliary Academy. In the past several former auxiliary officers have become Edison police officers as well as officers in other agencies including the New Jersey State Police and Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office, according to Deputy Chief Robert Dudash Jr.
