The U.S. Army recently submitted a $184 million contract modification to BAE Systems, a London-based defense and space manufacturing company, for 48 additional Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicles (AMPV).

The modification is to an existing full-rate production contract.

The AMPV family of vehicles come in five variants: general purpose, medical evacuation, medical treatment, mission command, and mortar carrier vehicles.

They replace the Army’s M113s and provide the Armored Brigade Combat Team with critical survivability, interoperability upgrades mobility, and on-board power.

“Soldiers deserve advanced capabilities like the AMPV that have been successfully tested to accomplish the many mission roles they will serve in the formation,” Bill Sheehy, BAE Systems AMPV program director, said. “It’s remarkable to have advanced to this stage of full-rate production. We value our continued partnerships with the Army and our suppliers who work alongside us to ensure we keep producing these critical combat vehicles at higher, sustainable volumes.”

Work will take place across BAE Systems’ industrial network including facilities in Alabama, Arizona, Michigan, South Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

BAE Systems will be finalizing soon a large-scale expansion project at its York, Pa. facility. The expansion along with multi-faceted engineering work company-wide will allow BAE Systems to deliver AMPVs at higher rates for its U.S. and potential international customers.
