It's been a rough tornado season and a new Illinois law is taking aim at that. We can all agree it's been a messy summer. In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.

Coast Guard searching for at least 1 missing person after boat sinks near 31st Street Harbor
A water search is underway after a boat capsized in Lake Michigan on Chicago's South Side.The U.S. Coast Guard said they received calls about a 25-foot double-decker pleasure yacht capsizing and then sinking near the 31st Street Harbor. Chicago police said it happened around 7:30 p.m.The Coast Guard said 16 people were on the boat at the time of the incident. It was not immediately clear how many of them went into the water, but as of 9 p.m., Chicago police and the Coast Guard said at least one person, an adult male, was still unaccounted for.Three people, a man and two women, were taken to a local hospital for treatment after the incident, all in good condition, police said.A witness said he saw the boat speeding in the water before flipping over, and then he heard screams for help.A group called Boat Safe Chicago captured drone video of the wreckage just moments after the crash.The search for the missing person, or people, is ongoing by Chicago police with assistance from a helicopter in the air.

Man dies after being shot, dropped off at hospital on South Side
CHICAGO (CBS) — A man was shot and killed Thursday night on the city's South Side.The shooting happened just before 9:30 p.m. in the 7100 block of South State Street in the Park Manor neighborhood. Police say officers responded to Jackson Park Hospital, where the victim, between 30-40 years of age, was dropped off at the hospital by someone driving a white car, who then left the area. CHICAGO - The same group of thieves burglarized six businesses in under an hour in Bucktown, Wicker Park and Lake View on Thursday. In each incident, the offenders used a hammer to shatter the front or side glass doors of businesses to gain entry, according to police.
