    2,000 bags of heroin/fentanyl seized, man convicted of drug delivery resulting in death

    PIKE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A jury verdict convicted a man in the death of a victim who died of an overdose after was found with over 2,000 bags of heroin/fentanyl.

    Pike County District Attorney Ray Tonkin announced a jury convicted Kenneth Smith, 42, of Honesdale in the death of a Pike County resident in April 2020.

    After a two-month-long investigation into the death of a person from Dingman Township, police say they learned of a supplier who allegedly brought fentanyl to Northeastern Pennsylvania.

    Investigators said Smith would bring a large quantity of heroin/fentanyl from New Jersey to NEPA during the overnight hours. On June 25 he was caught driving a rental car to a hotel in Milford Township where 2,300 bags of suspected heroin/fentanyl were seized.

    Eventually, Smith was linked to the delivery of fentanyl that caused the death of the victim in April 2020.

    Smith was converted on the following charges;

    • Drug delivery resulting in death
    • Criminal conspiracy to commit drug delivery resulting in death
    • Possession with intent to deliver fentanyl
    • Criminal conspiracy to commit possession with intent to deliver fentanyl

    Smith was convicted after a four-day trial in Pike County Court.
