Among the highlights at Wallenpaupack Area School District for the 2024-2025 school year is a new Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, Outdoor Power Equipment.

Classes at Wallenpaupack resume Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Superintendent Keith Gunuskey said that this program will teach "basic safety and hands-on skills needed to work in a small engine repair facility" and offered examples, such as engine operation, general maintenance and troubleshooting, disassembly, inspection, repair and reassembly, and career opportunities, qualifications and certifications found in the outdoor power equipment industry.

Community partnerships developed over the last eight years will be strengthened, Gunuskey said. One example is the partnership Future Business Leaders of America students with a local pet adoption agency. He said this has both enhanced the agency's mission and operation and brought a first-place national championship for Wallenpaupack students.

"In the K-8 we continue to work on the academic skills that students need to be successful in school and in their lives," Gunuskey said. "We continue to develop opportunities for students to apply their academic skills to problem solving, communicating, and expressing themselves in healthy ways."

Travis Ey is in his first summer as athletic director. He and Brett Buselli, his assistant, have been preparing for the fall athletic season.

Nine new faculty members will be welcomed to Wallenpaupack this year, he said. "The new positions range from early childhood to special education, to a new high school nurse and culinary instructors. We welcome a new counselor in (the) high school," he said.

"Our transportation system is doing well," he said. "Our biggest need currently is for day-to-day substitutes." For information on applying, visit wallenpaupack.org or contact Jennifer Marmeleira at marmelje@wallenpaupack.org .

Gunuskey said that the district received two grants through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to help the district with safety and security infrastructure, and to strengthen mental health services. Grants are also sought for educational support opportunities and to strengthen the safety and security of the Wallenpaupack family.
