Hawaii’s Keonilei and Braelyn Akana joined forces to host their first ever volleyball camp together this week (July 9-11).

Braelyn, a former Hawaii Rainbow Wahine and Keonilei is a current Texas Longhorn, took to the north shore to hold a 3-day camp that had more than 300 athletes attend.

“I think it’s just awesome. I know that there’s been a few camps last year and this year, and I just think it’s such a good testament of what our community is. I think everybody’s just really close to being such a big family, so it just makes sense. I’m really proud of our community that we come from,” said Braelyn.

The two sisters grew up together going to camps just like the one they hosted. Which they say gives a sense of community and creates memories not just for the kids, but themselves as well.

“It’s a really small community. We all know each other. We all treat each other like family. So being able to give back, it’s just such a special thing for us and then hopefully for the kids too,” said Keonilei.

The Akana sisters also admit that they have been asked by many people in the community if this camp will become a yearly tradition, and both Braelyn and Keonilei admit that they expect to continue hosting each year.
