Hawaii Men’s Volleyball Head Coach, Charlie Wade is getting ready for another A’o A Koa Club Volleyball season, and this year the club is expanding.

On Saturday, A’o A Koa held tryouts for this year’s rosters. With this season, the Club is expanding to eight teams (four boys and 4 girls’ teams).

“We started in 2013 and then we shut it down on the boys side. We’ve been back for a little bit, but this is the first year we’re coming back. We have four boys teams and four girls teams, so it really is kind of a new start for us,” said Wade.

With the new look and new season, comes new coaches. For multiple teams in the Club, Current Hawaii Rainbow Warriors players and Rainbow Wahine players will serve on the coaching staff.

“I hope it gives them a glimpse of the possibilities they have in front of them. That you can stay home and play and be successful and all of these things as well. But really, it’s just great to see teams like that,” said Rainbow Wahine and A’o A Koa Club Volleyball Coach, Jackie Matias. “Just starting with the technique and developing them a lot, I think that’s so important in their journey and I’m really glad that I get to be a part of that”.

Players such as Matias and Adrianna Arquette from the Rainbow Wahine, as well as Rainbow Warriors’ Kurt Nusterer and Tread Rosenthal will also be coaches this club season.

“It’s awesome. I mean, I started when I was 16 years old. I started my volleyball journey and I see so much of myself in and all the players that I’ve coached. It’s great because I get to see them living moments that I lived and I get to see them enjoying fun experiences that I had. So I’m kind of reliving old memories that I think of fondly. And it’s so great to be able to provide such an awesome experience for kids that I was lucky enough to have provided for me,” said Nusterer.

Wade said that those players who decide not to play with the club, or who don’t make a team, will have the opportunity to still play this season as they are planning on hosting multiple camps and clinics.
