HONOLULU (KHON2) — As the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce approaches its 125th anniversary in January 2025, preparations are underway for their upcoming inauguration event at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Thursday, July 25.
This year’s event will have over 400 esteemed members gathering to commemorate the chamber’s rich history and look ahead to future endeavors.
Steven Teruya provided insights into the festivities planned for this year’s inauguration.
“We will be recognizing our past chair, Kristi Yanagihara, and formally installing Marc Nakamoto as the incoming chair,” Teruya said. “We will honor members who have made exceptional contributions to our mission and community.”
Highlighting the event’s theme chosen by incoming chair Marc Nakamoto, Teruya said.
“This year’s theme is ‘Revitalize with Relevance: Building Resilience.’ It emphasizes our commitment to continual improvement, staying relevant in a dynamic environment, and fostering resilience in the face of challenges.”
Among the distinguished members to be honored, Dean Yoneshige will receive the Outstanding Member of the Year award for his exemplary leadership of the Ways and Means Committee.
Recognized with the KUROKO award, Brandon Miyagi and Jenna Nakagawa will be celebrated for their significant contributions behind the scenes, akin to the black-clad stage-hands in traditional Japanese theatre.
A pivotal moment of the evening will be the presentation of the Generation Award to Aloha Shoyu Company.
“Aloha Shoyu Company, now in its third generation, exemplifies enduring success in business. Their multi-generational commitment and resilience are commendable achievements worthy of recognition,” said Teruya.
