Annual Heritage Festival fishing derby is Saturday
The annual Oil Heritage Festival children’s fishing derby, sponsored by the Oil City chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, will take place on Saturday at Waltonian Park off Deep Hollow Road. Registration opens at 8 a.m., and fishing runs from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Due to traffic issues from the Veterans Bridge closure, parents are advised to plan for timely arrival. The derby features three age divisions with prizes, including a grand prize of an outdoor adventure package. Age groups are 5-6, 7-9, and 10-12, with possible adjustments for balance. District 1 News: New resolution authorizes city to contract with plumbers
Hello everyone, At the start of the summer season, my office received numerous calls asking about the status of various water features and drinking fountains within city parks. The City has one plumber who is responsible for preparing the pools, spray parks, drinking fountains, and bathrooms along with addressing any issues that arise in recreation centers, senior centers, and any other city-owned building. One person cannot manage all of these responsibilities and these city services need to be provided for all of our residents.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Parts of the Pittsburgh area will see some decent rain including the chance to see a couple of slow-moving storms that could bring some decent rain totals Monday. For most, the day is going to be mostly dry with a brief round of rain this afternoon. For the morning hours, an isolated shower or two, and maybe even a weak thunderstorm, will be possible for places south of I-70. The radar as of 4 a.m. was showing a mid-level low-pressure area with the center of rotation located near Nashville. Pockets of heavy rain are located near Columbia, KY...

Songs and messages touching on labor battles past and present fill the air in Greensburg
Near the end of the Pittsburgh Labor Choir’s “Power in a Union” sing-along in Greensburg on Sunday, a white-haired man named Glenn Plummer walked out of the crowd and stepped up to the microphone. He’d hoped to “butt in” to the event so he could lead everyone in a special song he’d written years ago, he joked.

Dangerous is the word in a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates
An interesting thing has happened. The Pirates have become a dangerous team. Before the Cardinals series against the Braves happened, the talking heads on the radio were talking about how likely it was that the Cardinals would start the post-All Star break 2-4, and while there was some disagreement, it seemed to them more likely they would lose 2 of 3 to the Pirates than the Braves. This was before one of the starters was Bryce Elder and when Max Fried was supposed to be the Sunday starter.

Eastsiders, brush your sweet tooth. Art's Bakery's long-awaited second location is ready to open Wednesday at 4625 Buffalo Road.
