LAFAYETTE — The Journal & Courier sports department is proud to present the 24th annual Student-Athlete of the Year awards. The selections were based on a student-athlete's athletic and academic achievements, along with community activities. The winners were asked to write about what high school athletics meant to them. LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — The Little Rock Police Department are searching for 41-year-old Clyde Holmes, who was last seen around July 10th when he was leaving his home. On July 11th, Newton County Sheriff's Office was notified of an abandoned truck located on a county Road off Highway 74 East between Jasper and Pierceton.
Illinois Officials Question Alton Mine Collapse and Future Safety Plans
The collapse of a mine on June 26, 2024, in Gordon Moore Park, Alton, Illinois, has alarmed local officials and residents. The falling apart resulted in a large sinkhole in the park’s soccer fields. With dimensions nearly 200 feet wide and 50 feet deep, the hole kept growing after several rains disrupted sports events and camps scheduled for the summer.
Galesburg girl wins Li’l Miss Illinois pageant
There she is, Li’l Miss Illinois. That person is Kynleigh Fox of Galesburg, who was recently named Li’l Miss Illinois 2024 through the Miss Illinois Youth Program. Fox, daughter of Stacy Dunham, took part in the pageant recently as Li’l Miss Knox County. Fox recently turned 9 years old and will be a fourth grader at Galesburg Christian School. Among the activities she was required to take part included a talent – she danced – and an interview. Fox aced it as she was named Overall Top Interview.

By the time I finally delivered a stack of 88 copies of the July 17 edition of the Ford County Chronicle to the first of our 16 newsstands late Thursday night, I had driven more than 300 miles over the previous five hours, stopping only briefly at my destination on the other side of the state — the Jacksonville Journal-Courier’s printing press in historical downtown Jacksonville — to pick up the 1,300 copies of the Chronicle that they printed so graciously earlier that evening, saving our Wednesday paper from being yet another day late.
