Rashawn Moore, 36, of Hope Mills, is a Realtor with Elite Realty Group and co-founder of Uptown's Chicken & Waffles.

He was nominated for 40 Under 40 because, "A gentle giant, Rashawn Moore is the epitome of a servant-leader. Rashawn is an experienced restaurateur," nominator Knashonda Eiland writes. "He takes great pride in pouring into his staff and helping them to realize their dreams both within and outside of the restaurant. Rashawn is an integral part of Elite Realty Group, where he is both a Realtor and the marketing coordinator. He specializes in residential sales and educates his clients on the benefits of homeownership. The child of a veteran, he takes special pride in assisting veterans. Assisting veteran clients has become a more deeply rooted passion since losing his father this year. In addition to being a local restaurateur, he is also an active member of Anderson Creek Christian Center where he leads worship and regularly supports their community efforts such as “Impact Sunday.”

Here's what else you should know about this member of The Fayetteville Observer's 40 Under 40 Class of 2024.

Who are your immediate family members?

Son, Chase Moore; mother, Chiquita Moore; brothers, Hosea Jackson and Terrell Jackson; and sisters, Angel Jackson and Aquira Alston

Where did you receive your education?

    Cape Fear High School

What community and professional groups are you affiliated with?

A member of the National Association of Realtors; Thurgood Marshall College Fund; and the WIDU Pastors Coalition.

How do you volunteer your time in the community?

I have partnered and volunteered with numerous small businesses, religious groups, churches and WIDU 99.7FM in yearly back-to-school programs, youth events, social awareness programs and helped raise funds for homeless organizations in our local area.

What is one thing you wish people knew or understood better about your profession?

"Heavy is the head that wears the crown." Some people will never understand the effort, dedication and determination it takes to own a business. The reality is, that while I may own the business, I work for my staff, customers and clients.

What's the best advice you've ever received and/or the worst advice you've ever followed?

The best advice I ever received was from my late mother and father ... to trust God in all things. I am living proof that anything is possible with Him. The worst advice I've ever followed was listening to everyone telling me to try the steak, egg and cheese bagel from McDonald's — horrible!

What goal have you already achieved, and how did you make it happen?

Becoming a Realtor. I had a desire to get involved in real estate for years but was nervous about the class and taking the national exam. Not only did I pass the exam but I did it my first time — in record time. It took discipline, structure, planning, studying and application.

If you weren't in your current profession, what would you be?

If I wasn't a restauranteur or Realtor I would be — an entrepreneur. I've always had a desire to create a business/product and provide great customer service. I'm always dreaming of what's next!

What are five things (not people or pets) you can't live without?

There's absolutely no way I could live without Coke Zero, french fries, vacations. music and my faith.

What's something you do outside of work to enrich yourself?

I travel to both business and religious conferences quarterly and yearly to help with my personal growth. Traveling has become one of my favorite things to do to help curate new ideas and refresh my thinking.

What's a song that always makes you happy or that motivates you?

"Hold To God's Unchanging Hand" is one of the first songs I learned to sing and play in church and I carry it with me to this day. One of my favorite lines from that song is, "Time is filled with swift transition ..."
