ST. LOUIS (AP) — Brian White scored two goals to continue his white-hot streak and the Vancouver Whitecaps beat St. Louis City 3-1 Saturday night. White has scored in four consecutive games, beginning with a hat trick in 4-3 win over St. Louis on June 29. Vancouver (10-7-5) is unbeaten, with three wins, in that span. The 28-year-old, who also scored in four straight games in April became the first player in club history to accomplish the feat twice in a single season.
Cynthia Velma (Fisher) Floyd
Cynthia Floyd, 96, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Andahwod Senior Center. Her passing came 2 hours and 20 minutes prior to the passing of her son Dennis Vincent Kequom II, in the same room. Cindy was born September 25, 1927, in Rosebush, Michigan, daughter of the late Marvin Fisher and Dora Collins. Her marriage to Dennis Kequom Sr. was blessed with a son, Dennis Vincent II. Cindy was employed by various places including Central Michigan Community Hospital, Michigan Bulb in Grand Rapids, county carnivals, and farms, harvesting fruits. Cindy married Marvel Floyd on February 2, 1979, in Grand Rapids. She enjoyed shopping, traveling with seniors on trips, and helping at the Sowmick Center. Her best friend was Dorothy Netmop who predeceased her in April of 2024. She was a proud member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. Cindy leaves behind her grandchildren, Dennis ‘Vinnie’ (Tonia) Kequom of Mt. Pleasant, Dana Lynn (Chip) Neyome of Mt. Pleasant; great grandchildren, Skyler, Tina, Kobun, Hunter, Caleb, Andrew, and Emmett; daughter in-law, Marie Kequom of Mt. Pleasant; extended family; and beloved canine, Scruffy. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvel Floyd; three infant children, Johnny, Rebecca, and Diana; and great granddaughter, Autumn Neyome. Her funeral and son’s funeral will be celebrated together at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Alice Jo Ricketts officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. and one hour before the service on Wednesday. A luncheon will follow in Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). Memorial contributions may be made to Dalis to the Rescue or Humane Animal Treatment Center (HATS). Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Midland Area Community Foundation names new trustees, officers
The Midland Area Community Foundation recently welcomed Ali Huntoon, Kristin Stehouwer, and Noah Kent to its Board of Trustees. Alongside this trio of appointments, the foundation elected a new slate of officers at its annual meeting. Huntoon is the co-founder and Director of HR and Talent Acquisition at Allied HR Solutions, a consulting firm assisting small and growing businesses with their human resources needs. With over a decade of human resources industry experience, she has expertise in benefits administration, compensation management, talent acquisition, and human resources management, having worked with large corporations like Dow and Chemical Bank, nonprofits like Alma College, and various small businesses and startups. Additionally, Huntoon is a certified fitness instructor and yoga teacher, having co-founded Allied Group Fitness, a studio offering classes for all fitness levels. She is an active volunteer, serving as an ambassador and board member for the Midland Business Alliance and as a member of the Midland Noon Exchange Club. Huntoon lives in Midland with her husband, Scott, and their dog, Baxter.
