Eastbound U.S. 10 lanes closing July 16 to set bridge beams
BAY COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) - Traffic on eastbound U.S. 10 will have to make a slight detour July 16 while contractors set beams for a new Mackinaw Road bridge. The Michigan Department of Transportation is closing both eastbound lanes under the Mackinaw Road overpass from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. that night.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Central Michigan football star, 13-year NFL veteran and six-time NFL Pro Bowl selection Joe Staley will be inducted into the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame as part of its 2024 Induction Class in September, the organization announced earlier this week. Staley and four other inductees will be honored in a Sept. 27 ceremony at Grand Rapids' Van Andel Arena.
City approves changes to trash, recycling hauler
Starting with the new year, nearly 5,000 Mount Pleasant residences will have a new trash hauler. The City Commission on Monday approved a change to the city trash collection ordinance that tosses out the current bag/tag system in favor of automated, curb-side pickup. The five-year contract with Lansing-based Granger Waste Services narrowly survived a 4-3 vote, following a lively public hearing that saw more than a half-dozen residents raising red flags about environmental impact, price, accessibly and safety.

GardenWalk takes over Midland on July 9
The 21st Annual GardenWalk presented by Reece Endeavor took place Tuesday afternoon, featuring this historic home on West Park Drive owned by Jan and Irv Snyder. Highlights from the Snyder Garden include the rhododendron forest – originally planted by Willard Dow – and a rebuilt stone walkway circling the ponds, ravine and a major part of the forest. The annual event showcased four other local gardens in Midland as well as Dow Gardens.
