    Suspect in Hopewell evades arrest by jumping into marina

    HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — The Hopewell Police Department is searching for a suspect who they say jumped into the marina to avoid arrest on Tuesday.

    According to the department, at 2:05 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, officers responded to the 1000 block of Riverside Avenue after a call about a suspicious person in the area. After making contact with the individual, who was found to be wanted out of multiple jurisdictions, they jumped into the marina to avoid arrest.

    Hopewell Fire and EMS then arrived on the scene to help, and Virginia State Police (VSP) utilized their helicopter in the search, which was met with negative results.

    Chesterfield Fire and Rescue units are currently in the water searching for the individual.
