Hopewell Police investigate early morning double homicide

HOPEWELL − Police are investigating an early morning shooting Sunday that left two men dead.

Police Lt. Jacquita Allen said it happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 300 block of North Radford Drive just off West Broadway. Allen said officers found two men shot, one of them already dead. The other one was rushed to TriCities Hospital in Hopewell where he later died.

The victims have been identified as Damonye Lamont Taylor, 23, of Hopewell; and Dequante Travell Roney, 30, of Prince George County. Taylor died at the scene, and Roney died at the hospital.

No motive has been released for the shooting, but a police alert sent out at the time said there was no threat to public safety
