HOPKINTON Two Rhode Island residents were seriously injured Sunday after a head-on crash on Cedar Street, authorities said.

The cause of the crash appears to be "distracted driving," police said.

Police say a 61-year-old Milford man, who has not been identified, was driving southbound at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday on Cedar Street (Route 85) near Legacy Farms North.

Police say the man's car crashed head-on into with a car driven by a 46-year-old Lincoln, Rhode Island, woman. Both she and her passenger, a 45-year-old man from Lincoln, were transported to UMass-Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, due to the seriousness of their injuries.

Their conditions were not immediately known on Monday.

The Milford man suffered minor injuries but declined treatment.

"At this time, it appears that a vehicle was traveling south on Cedar Street when the driver got distracted, swerved off the roadway, overcorrected and entered the northbound travel lane, striking a vehicle traveling north," Lt. Scott van Raalten said.

Police did not disclose the nature of the distraction.

The crash, which forced Cedar Street to be closed to the Southborough line for about 30 minutes, remains under investigation.

    No one has been charged.
