(WPRI) — A Hopkinton man is facing more than a dozen charges, including attempted aggravated murder, after a Sunday night shootout with Vermont State Police troopers.

On Tuesday, a Vermont judge signed an arrest warrant for 30-year-old Brenden Sackal on the following charges:

    • Attempted aggravated murder (three counts)
    • Aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer (three counts)
    • Aggravated assault with a weapon
    • Grossly negligent operation of a motor vehicle
    • Attempting to elude law enforcement
    • Large-capacity ammunition-feeding device possession (seven counts)

If convicted of all charges, Vermont State Police said Sackal could receive a mandatory life sentence in prison, without parole.

At this time, police said Sackal is in “critical, but stable condition” at a New Hampshire hospital after he exchanged gunfire with two Vermont state troopers. The shootout stemmed from a chase that started in New Hampshire after Hopkinton police put out an alert about Sackal.

Hopkinton police said they also plan to file charges against Sackal after finding a stockpile of weapons at his home, including ghost guns.
