    Hornell to hold community nights on Thursdays

    HORNELL, N.Y. ( WETM ) — Hornell residents are invited to attend weekly family-friendly community events this summer.

    Hornell Partners for Growth announced that Thursdays at the Square will take place at Union Square Park in Hornell on nine Thursdays starting on June 27 and ending on Aug. 29 (excluding July 4). Food and craft vendors will be set up from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and the city’s fountain will be on the entire time.

    The square will be filled with live entertainment and music every week. There will also be free kids activities and ice pops for little ones while supplies last. Event attendees can choose to dance in a designated area or relax in chairs provided by the event.

    Each week will feature something new. A schedule for each Thursday in the Square event can be found below.

    June 27

    The first Thursday in the Square will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and a live performance by Balanced Effect will start at 7 p.m. The Dog Doctor will be the evening’s featured food vendor. Free activities for children will include a build-you-own mini birdhouse station.

    July 11

    The Port-A-Globe Mobile Puppet Theater will put on a show for people of all ages from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., after which DJ Truth will host a kids’ dance party until 9 p.m. The Dog Doctor will be back in the square for this event. The whole family is invited to get their faces painted by Badger and Butterfly Studios for free during the festivities.

    July 18

    DJ Truth will be back at 6 p.m. to host a karaoke night. Visitors can purchase food from the Old Mill Inn and shop with craft vendors while listening to their neighbors sing.

    July 25

    The last event in July will be full of live acoustic music. Ellen Oaks Kerr will perform at 6 p.m., John Weatherbee will go on at 7 p.m., and Shepard Pi will close the night at 8 p.m. The Dog Doctors will be selling food during the performances.

    Aug. 1

    Longshot will perform a mix of classic rock and modern country hits during this event. The Hornell VFW will provide food.

    Aug. 8

    Joker and Thieves featuring High School Students from Arkport will perform classic rock while Old Mill Inn serves food and craft vendors sell items.

    Aug. 15

    A 16-piece band called 78RPM will take the stage at 7 p.m. to entertain visitors with classic big-band music. Old Mill Inn will be back as the food vendor.

    Aug. 22

    The second to last Thursday in the Square will be another night full of acoustic music. The Old Mill Inn will be in the square while local musicians play. Brian Friedland will play at 5 p.m., Mike Chapman will play at 6 p.m., and the Bard Brothers will plan at 7 p.m.

    Aug. 29

    Thursdays at the Square will end with live music from Southbound. This band mixes 80s dance and country music. The Hornell VFW will be back to serve everyone’s favorite summer foods.


    Hornell Partners for Growth is still looking for vendors. If you’re interested in selling your products during Thursdays in the Square, call 607-324-9786. HPG is also looking for a farmer to vend for people who can’t make daytime markets in the area.
