Steamers roll past Hitmen for 11th straight victory

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM) – The Hornell Steamers just keep winning.

Hornell defeated the Horseheads Hitmen on Monday, marking their 11th consecutive win. The Steamers took the dominant 13-2 win, in front of a packed crowd of young fans at Colucci-Williams Field. The NYCBL’s top team started the rare morning game with a bang, as Elijah Nichols mashed solo home runs in his first 2 at bats. Nichols’ hot start was backed by a 1st inning run from Alex Dupuy and a 3rd inning RBI-double from Braden McLin.

Horseheads chipped away at their 4-run deficit in the 4th. Elmira Notre Dame grad Logan Meisner opened the scoring with an RBI-single, before Elmira’s Jack Carozzoni matched his fellow Section IV alum.

One inning later, Hornell’s offense exploded for 8 runs in the 5th. McLin, Markus Brehm, Jackson Legg, and Nichols added RBI base hits to a Finn Ellis 3-run home run. In the 6th, Ellis would add to the scoresheet again, delivering the final run.

Hornell will look to continue full steam ahead, on Tuesday. The Steamers host Genesee at 7 p.m. with a shot at a 12th straight win.

The Hitmen also return to the diamond on Tuesday. Horseheads travels to Salamanca for a 7 p.m. start against the Lizards.
