HORNELL, NY — For the fourth time this season, the Oilers found themselves on the wrong side of the 10-run mercy rule. The game was stopped in the eighth inning when the Steamers took a 13-3 lead.

The Oilers gave up four runs to the Steamers in the first inning, which proved to be too much for them to overcome on Friday night.  The Steamers extended their streak to 14 straight wins on the season.

Oilers pitcher Dale Beneway pitched two innings and allowed five runs with four earned off six hits. Beneway started five games this season and played in a total of nine. Friday's game was his first loss.

Relief pitcher Matt Marsh only lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing five earned runs off five hits.

The Oilers remain a half-game ahead of Dansville in the western division of the New York Collegiate Baseball League. Both teams will be in action on Saturday for their last representative games of the regular season.

The Oilers travel to Houghton on Saturday to face the Genesee Rapids. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
