    Hornell man arrested after Canisteo theft

    CANISTEO, N.Y. ( WETM ) — A Hornell man is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing from someone in Canisteo.

    Sean M. Ayers, 53, was arrested on July 18 after police investigated a July 15 complaint about a theft. According to the Canisteo Police Department, the investigation found that property was stolen from the person who made the complaint, and police identified Ayers as the suspect after asking the public for help identifying a picture of the suspect.

    Ayers was charged with four counts of fourth-degree grand larceny (a class E felony) and one count of petit larceny (a misdemeanor).

    Ayers was taken to the Steuben County Jail for CAP Arraignment, and he is currently being held without bail.

    The New York State Police Department, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, and the City of Hornell Police Department assisted the Canisteo Police Department with the investigation that led to Ayer’s arrest.
