Horse Creek Fire transitions to local type 4 incident commander

BONDURANT – Wyoming Type 3, Team 2 were scheduled to transfer command of the Horse Creek Fire to a local Type 4 Incident Commander on Friday.

The fire continues to burn in a remote, mountainous area in steep, rugged terrain, though minimal fire activity has occurred. Safety is the No. 1 priority through the transition of command on the Horse Creek Fire. Fire managers and personnel continue to assess the area and carry out suppression efforts.

Bridger-Teton National Forest staff will remain available to support the local Type 4 IC on the Horse Creek Fire. The fire remains at 43 acres, with minimal growth over the last several days. The fire is 10% contained, with continuing suppression efforts utilizing natural features. Fire crews have positioned hoses along the North Horse Creek drainage. A saw line was also completed, connecting natural features together to build containment lines.

A reduced Horse Creek Fire Area, Road, and Trail Closure Order remains in effect for public and firefighter safety.
