    NYCBL All-Star list released, local players make the cut

    ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) released its respective all-star lists Friday.

    Both the Horseheads Hitmen and Hornell Steamers are well represented on the list for the West Division. For Horseheads, infielders Matt Procopio and AJ Brotz make the squad. Procopio, a Horseheads High graduate, leads the team in batting and runs batted in at an even .400 and 19 RBI. Procopio also has two home runs and four doubles.

    Brotz, a Haverling High grad, is batting .353 with two home runs and 11 RBI with four doubles. Procopio was also invited to participate in the NYCBL Prospects Showcase in front of 30 Major League Baseball (MLB) scouts in June.

    Hornell lands five players on the West All- Stars. Pitcher Cowan Alfonso, infielders Jackson Legg and Elijah Nichols, and outfielders Brody Langlotz and Brady McLin. The Steamers are in second place in the West with a (16-7-1) record right behind first place Genesee (18-6). The Hitmen are currently in last place in the West at (6-16).

    The 2024 NYCBL All-Star game will be played on Monday, July 8 at Innovative Field in Rochester at 3 PM.

    Horseheads returns to action Friday night with a doubleheader against Olean (12-10) starting at 4 PM. Hornell heads to a doubleheader tonight also start at Salamanca (7-17).
