Manufacturer of custom-made sheds and other structures opening new Horseheads location

Elmira area residents looking for a new shed or other structure have a new option opening in Horseheads.

Representatives of the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce and other officials gathered Thursday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome Heritage Structures to its new location at 111 Colonial Drive, just off Interstate 86.

Heritage Structures, based in Waterloo and established in 2004, builds made-to-order sheds and other portable structures in several Amish workshops, and transports them to local sites for display and sales.

The new location is owned by Texas native Marcos Galvez, who currently lives in Belfast, Allegany County.

"I helped a man in Texas with his business. When I moved here, I went to (Heritage Structures) and asked if they were looking for new dealers, and the owner called me back," Galvez said. "This was an empty lot for sale, two acres."

Galvez is the only employee at the Horseheads location, but said his wife and other family members help out.

Galvez said if customers see a structure they like but want a different color or other variation, crews will build them a new structure at the same price.

Customers can also design their own structures using the 3D Builder on the Heritage Structures website.

The company has other sites in the Southern Tier, including Addison, Hammondsport and Branchport.

Galvez hopes the Horseheads location won't be his last.

"This is my first dealership. I hope to open a few more within two years," he said. "Maybe I'll put one in Corning. I like that community."
