    Hitmen eliminated by Dansville in playoff opener

    DANSVILLE, N.Y. (WETM) – The Horseheads Hitmen’s season has come to a close.

    The Dansville Gliders bested Horseheads 5-3 on Monday, eliminating the Hitmen from the NYCBL Playoffs. The Hitmen close out their 2nd season with a (9-28) record, after putting up a strong fight in the 1st round of the West Division playoffs.

    Dansville opened the scoring at their home park, delivering 2 runs in the 2nd inning. Cameron Abele hit a single, which turned into 2 scores after an arrant throw to 2nd base. Horseheads cancelled out the error in the 3rd, tying the contest at 2. Horseheads grad Dom Russ pushed Michael Fabiano across with an RBI-single, before Haverling’s A.J. Brotz scored Anthony Franco on an error in center field.

    Pitching took over the game until the 8th inning, as Charlie Yaeger went stride for stride with Daniel Lewis. The Odessa-Montour grad, Lewis struck out 1 Glider and delivered a solid 7-inning outing, despite allowing 4 earned. T.J. Dimitriou closed out the Horseheads effort, sitting down 2. Yaeger tossed a complete game for Dansville, striking out 5.

    Scoring picked back up in the 8th, as the Gliders began to pull away. Liam Stonestreet gave his team the lead with an RBI-double, before Justin Colpack followed up with a 2-RBI ground rule double. In the 9th, Kyler Hickman cut into Horseheads’ deficit with a solo home run, but Dansville would escape with the win.
