Neither movie was set in upstate New York, but given the violent storms our region has seen this month, one might be forgiven for imagining a future such movie telling a story rooted in Western or Central New York.It used to be that wintry weather kept Democrat and Chronicle journalists the busiest, but this year, it's been summer storms that have proved alarming. Fund to Aid Children Harmed at Birth Hasn’t Kept Promises, Families Say
The birth had been long and difficult. Denise Olivio requested a cesarean section, she said, but was rebuffed until a doctor decided it was an emergency. The baby, GianRaul, came out purple, and it took doctors 15 minutes to locate his heartbeat. Hours later, Olivio and her husband — exhausted but relieved that their son had survived — said they saw their doctor and midwife being pulled aside by a man in a suit who they believed was the hospital’s lawyer.

Missing dementia patient found safe in Ithaca woods
ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – An Ithaca woman with dementia is safe after getting lost in the woods overnight. Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a vulnerable missing 69-year-old on Winston Drive around 9 a.m. on Sunday. A concerned neighbor made the call and assisted authorities with information from a Wi-Fi tracker. The tracker last placed the woman walking into a wooded area on Meadowlark Drive around 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Owego resident rescued from fire on William Street
One resident was rescued and his home was damaged by a fire in the Village of Owego last Thursday. According to the Owego Fire Department, a neighbor called in the fire on William Street at around 6:45 p.m. on July 18th. Owego Deputy Fire Chief Mike Hopkins arrived on the scene and requested a second alarm for a working structure fire. He was informed by a neighbor that one person was still inside the home.
