HOULTON, Maine — A man was transported by LifeFlight to Bangor from Houlton Regional Hospital on Saturday after crashing into a car dealership on Route 1, according to the Houlton Police Department.

At about 7:10 a.m. Saturday, the used car manager at York’s of Houlton heard a big boom while he was pouring a cup of coffee, General Manager Jamie York said.

York, who was on scene minutes later, said it appeared that a pickup truck went off the road while traveling south on Route 1 near the Tractor Supply, and clipped a dump truck before traveling between two rows of used cars in the lot.

The truck appeared to have crashed at a high speed into a concrete abutment that supports a large, lighted glass Toyota sign, York said.

Houlton Police Department received calls several minutes later that a truck crashed into York’s and someone was injured, according to a police report.

Police aren’t releasing other information, including the name or condition of the driver, citing an active investigation.

The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, which also responded, did not return calls for comment.

According to York, the truck traveled the narrow path between the cars in the dealership lot and hit the front end of one car, seriously damaging it.

Debris from the crash struck the dealership’s large glass door into the showroom and cracked a nearby window.

The driver was entrapped in the vehicle, according to police.

“They had to use the Jaws of Life to get him out,” York said.

The Maine State Police and Houlton Fire and Ambulance also assisted.
