Readers can venture through a book about sharing, page-by-page and step-by-step at Houma's Courthouse Square.

The Terrebonne Parish Public Library will put out signs Tuesday, July 9, with pages from the book The Mouse’s Apples by Francis Strickley. Each sign will display a page from the book so that readers can exercise as they read. The signs number 15 to 20 in total and on July 12, at 3 p.m., Terrebonne Parish Public Library Outreach Coordinator Emily Daigle will be giving a guided story walk for everyone who shows up.

“I just love the idea of people getting outside,” she said. “My job is to bring the library out to the community so instead of coming to the library for a story time, I figured it would be just awesome to get people outside, in the sunshine, get some exercise, and be able to read the book and have a story time.”

The story is about a mouse foraging for apples to make tea, and a hungry bear shows up that wants the apples for himself. According to Daigle, the story ends with a lesson on sharing. The guided tour, she said, will take about 20 minutes because there will be singing along with the story time.

The signs will remain out for the month of July, and Daigle said the library will be repeating the program on a bi-monthy or tri-monthly schedule.

For a list of the library’s summer programs, visit the library’s website at mytpl.org and view the calendar, or grab a physical calendar of events at any of the Terrebonne Parish Library’s branches.
