Major Ashford Library project abandoned, director cites rising costs as cause
DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — A renovation project to move the Ashford Library to a new and larger space has been halted by the Dothan Houston County Library System (DHCLS). According to DHCLS Director Chris Warren, the library system’s Board of Trustees voted to stop the Ashford Library renovation project and the Ashford Library Capital Campaign to raise funds for the project.
Suspect in three county police chase identified
HARTFORD, Ala (WDHN) — A suspect is in custody after authorities say he led officers on a police chase through three counties. Hartford Police Chief Pete Markow identified the suspect as Brandon Ellison Bond of Georgia. He is charged with several counts of attempting to elude, drug possession, and at least one count of assault out of Houston County.

The board considered a number of factors in reaching this difficult decision, including the fact that costs for the project escalated from an original budget of approximately $954,000 to over $1.6 million.
