    Houston sales tax revenue down compared to last year in May

    Sales tax revenue collected by Houston merchants during May was down compared to a year ago, according to the Missouri Department of Revenue.

    A one-cent sales tax earmarked for parks, police and fire generated $79,957.28 for the month of May. That’s down $2,665.85 from the same period a year ago.

    A one-cent general sales tax totaled $81,328.50. That’s a decrease of $5,239.64 from the same period last year.

    Two quarter-cent sales taxes – one for transportation and one for utility work – each totaled $19,989 in the month of May. That’s down $666.59 from the same period last year.

    A use tax applied to out-of-state internet orders totals $13,193.72 for the month. That’s up $5,245.12 from the same period last year.
