Looks like the really hot weather is here now and the library is a great place to come cool off.

We have plenty of new books for all ages to check out as well as DVDs and the use of computers.

Dreams can become reality, and I know this to be true every time I drive past the new Houston main branch library site. Walls are going up and it is getting very exciting. There is still a ways to go, but the contractor and library board are working hard to give Texas County a beautiful new library!

If you would like to contribute to the new library, there are still NAP credits available for purchase.  Contact me at 417-967-2258 for information.

Yes, that IS a life-size poster of Ms. Dolly Parton in the children’s section of all Texas County Libraries!  It’s to let everyone know that her Imagination Library is now being sponsored in the State of Missouri, and every Missouri child can receive a free book every month from birth until their fifth birthday!

Stop by any Texas County Library branch or online at imaginationlibrary.com to enroll a child.

“You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children.” – Dolly Parton

Now that Summer Reading activities are over, come have a story and craft each Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Houston library with Miss Tiffany. There are also LEGOS, STEM Kits, and kids computers available for fun any day we are open.

Information about all the library branches can be found on our website and Facebook page.  Another big thank you to all the participants in Summer Reading and the local businesses in Texas County that donated.

New additions to the Houston shelves: “Camino Ghosts” by John Grisham, “Hard to Kill” by James Patterson & Mike Lupica, “Peach Tea Smash” by Laura Childs, “Shadow of Doubt” by Brad Thor and “Buried Too Deep” by Karen Rose.

Thank you to our librarians, Del in Houston and Amy in Cabool, for highlighting different authors.  Check out their displays and you may find a great “new to you” author and titles to read!

Fishing poles and tackle boxes are available at all Texas County Library branches for check out.  This service is courtesy of the Missouri Department of Conservation. Also at our Licking branch, you can check out birdwatching backpacks courtesy of the Rolla Ornithological Society in memory of Doc Hatch.

Texas County Library has e-Books and audio books available to download for Texas County Library patrons! To view the catalog and download, go to our website: texascountylibrary.lib.mo.us , click on “e-books”, or come by the library for assistance. Texas County Library cards are required.

The Houston Library is the main branch of the Texas County Library, and is located at 117 W. Walnut St. Business hours are 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

Check out our webpage at texascountylibrary.lib.mo.us , call the library at 417-967-2258 or email TexasCountyLibrary@gmail.com. And be sure to LIKE our Texas County Library Facebook page!

Louise Beasley is director of the Texas County Library system. She can be reached by phone at the Houston branch at 417-967-2258, or by email at Texascountylibrary@gmail.com. More information about the four county library branches is available online at texascountylibrary.lib.mo.us .
