Members of the Texas County Library Foundation met Wednesday and received an update on Houston’s new library under construction at First and Pine streets. It will be completed next summer. The group will be focusing the last quarter of this year on completing the transfer of tax credits to donors, who earn generous Missouri benefits for participating in the community program.

Here’s how: For each $1 a business owner, farmer and landlord donates, 70 cents is earned to write off a state tax return. Then, the contribution is partially deductible on federal returns. The appeal to many is that they get to determine how their taxes are spent and give to help a local project.

If you’d like to support the effort, call Louise Beasley, library director, at 417-967-2258 or phone foundation members at 417-838-7840 or 417-260-5707. For those who pay a lot of taxes, some donors report they almost make money and get the benefit of helping something to better the town. There is a limited quantity of tax credits.
