The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department :
A man who wished to remain anonymous reported the recovery of a firearm on Sept. 24.
A deputy made contact with the man at his residence and the man produced a single-shot shotgun he said was found at another man’s residence on Highway 181 at Cabool. The man reported that the residents of the house are prohibited from possessing firearms.
A records search revealed no matches. Based on circumstances, the deputy assumed the gun was stolen.
The man said he didn’t want it, so the officer took it and placed it into evidence.
A deputy was dispatched to the Baptist Camp river access on Aug. 31 regarding a report of a domestic assault in progress.
While on the way there, a female witness advised the officer that the man and woman involved were in a gold Ford Taurus and that she had seen the man hit the woman several times with his hand.
The officer conducted a traffic stop of the car and made contact with the woman, who reportedly said her husband had hit her twice that day, but she didn’t wish to pursue charges. The deputy observed two red marks on her face.
The man was read his Miranda warning and then said he didn’t hit the woman. He was taken to the Texas County Jail and issued a citation for domestic assault – fourth degree.
On Sept. 28, a deputy responded to Harlow Road regarding a report of a vehicle in the river missing its wheels and tires.
Upon arrival, the officer observed a silver 2017 Buick SUV with no registration and no wheels. A computer check revealed the vehicle was registered to a 47-year-old West Plains man.
There were items in the vehicle that belonged to a woman with the same last name as the vehicle’s owner, and there were keys in a cupholder.
A towing company was contacted to remove the vehicle from the river.
A deputy was dispatched Sept. 14 regarding an incident at the Roby Saddle Club.
Upon arrival, the officer was informed that there was a man seated inside a Robe Fire Department truck and a large crowd that was angry with him.
Several people at the scene told the deputy that the man had made multiple advances on juveniles at the location, including grabbing a girl’s arm as she tried to leave. Witnesses also claimed the man had offered beer to juveniles.
After investigating, the officer arrested the man and took him to jail. He reportedly denied the allegations.
