Dr. Ed Williamson, a 1981 Houston graduate, received the Sue Rollins Educator of the Year Award during a Drury University graduation ceremony May 10.

The award is named after Sue Rollins, who was the university’s dean of continuing education from 1985 to 2001. It honors instructors who bring their subject matter to life for adult learners.

“Dr. Williamson is an associate professor of education who has taught, mentored and supported DruryGO and its students for 25 years,” said university officials.

“Ed has committed his professional life to educating future teachers in our community. His students have gone on to be outstanding classroom teachers and district leaders; in fact, a number of his former students have been recognized by their districts as teacher of the year. Dr. Williamson is an outstanding educator who excels in thoughtfulness, effective teaching and encouragement. His passion for the subject, combined with a genuine care for his students, creates a learning environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”

Williamson taught at both the Raymondville and Summersville school districts.

He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southwest Baptist University and then went on to earn a doctorate degree at the University of Missouri.

He is the son of Carmel and Arlene Williamson of Houston and is married to Beth Williamson.
