A well-traveled bridge at Baptist Camp Access on the Big Piney River that was damaged by a fire in 2022 is nearly repaired.
The county commissioners met Friday, May 31 at the bridge to do a walk-through inspection.
West Plains Bridge and Grading began repairs in early March. The approximate cost is $1.3 million.
In 2022, the Houston Rural Fire Department found a large amount of wood debris piled up and burning under the 95-foot long bridge that has 63,000-pound beams that were manufactured in Marshall in about 2012. There are six concrete I-beams.
A neighbor called authorities after being alarmed about the amount of smoke in the area.
