Kandy Lee (Turnbough) Reiners was born April 1, 1956, in St. Louis, Mo., to Ralph and JoAnne Turnbough. Kandy peacefully passed away at age 68, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo. June 7, 2024.

Kandy spent her younger years in St. Louis but soon moved to the country in Simmons, Mo. She attended school and high school and graduated in Cabool, Mo.

Kandy and Gary were married Sept. 15, 1978, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Two years ago she was baptized.

They had three beautiful children, Snapper, Brandi and Chris.

Kandy started working at an early age. She worked various jobs until she landed her job at H.D. Lees in Houston, Mo. She became very good friends with many people during her 26 ½ years of employment. There were a lot of good and sad times in the factory yelling over the sewing machines at Margie Stroup. Many memories in the factory. Kandy had many jobs after that. She enjoyed working at the Success School with the staff and being around the children.

Kandy and Gary enjoyed many years of dancing and met wonderful people. Kandy, Gary, and the kids spent most nights out in the woods cutting firewood. The family will always remember when Snapper was about nine years old a nail severed most of the top of his finger. He held up his finger and yelled at Kandy for help. In her surprise, she threw the piece of wood she was holding and hit Snapper in the head with it.

Kandy loved telling or pulling jokes on people. She loved to cook, not for just one person, but for an army. Her door was always open.

Kandy and Gary loved playing pitch with Carol and Jim Woods. She also enjoyed playing cards with her brother, Jeff and her mother, JoAnne. Kandy also enjoyed playing bingo on Friday nights with her daughter, Brandi. Kandy loved going to yard sales with her mom and daughter. Kandy loved talking on the phone with her sister, Vicki Balangue and many others.

Kandy and her family will always remember the time Chris had been gifted a Batman costume. He gave Kandy quite a scare when he jumped out of the tree house, in an attempt to fly, and broke his leg; with Brandi running into the house with Chris in her arms.

Kandy loved spending time with her grandkids. Her recent enjoyment was Diamond Painting. She loved it. No one was ever a stranger to Kandy.

Kandy never gave up. In 2016, she had a liver transplant. She put up a fight to the very end, she is one of the strongest people her family will ever know. Kandy is shining down on us, and her courage is an inspiration to all.

Kandy is preceded in death by her father, Ralph Lee Turnbough; and older brother, Billy Edward Turnbough. She is survived by her husband, Gary Reiners of Success, Mo.; mother, JoAnne (Lunbeck) Turnbough of Houston; sister, Vicki (Turnbough) Balangue and husband, Oscar of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; brother, Jeff Turnbough of Houston; children Snapper Harris and wife, Shelly of Success, Brandi Olson of Plato, Mo., and Chris Reiners and wife, Malori of Bucyrus, Mo.; and grandchildren, Dakota and Austin Olson of Success; and Lilly, Levi, and Lanie May Reiners of Bucyrus; along with a host of friends.

A visitation for Kandy was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 11 at Evans Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 12 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor David Kettner officiating. Pallbearers were Austin Olson, John Bailey, Dakota Olson, Eddie Huff, Travis Lunbeck, Nick Winingnear and Levi Reiners. Interment followed at Jackson Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Evans Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.evansfh.com .
