A community banker with ties to Houston has been named chairman of the Missouri Bankers Association.

David M. Gohn, president/CEO of West Plains Bank and Trust Company, was elected and installed as chairman at the organization’s 134th Annual Convention held June 4-6 at the Hilton Branson Convention Center.

As chairman, Gohn’s duties include overseeing and directing activities of the MBA board of directors and representing MBA’s membership with elected officials and regulators at the state and national level. Gohn will serve as chairman for one year.

“With his strong ties to the people, businesses and communities served by the bank, David understands the vital role that community banks have in driving economic prosperity in their communities,” said MBA President and CEO Jackson Hataway. “His vast knowledge of the banking industry will serve him well as he leads our association as chairman.”

West Plains Bank has a branch on South Sam Houston Blvd. in Houston.

“Banks are a critical component in ensuring that towns and cities in Missouri and our nation survive and thrive,” Gohn said. “Our expertise assists our customers with their financial goals, ultimately spurring growth in our communities. MBA and its members will continue to actively seek changes in Jefferson City and Washington, D.C., with the legislature and regulatory agencies to ensure our communities continue to survive and thrive.”

Gohn has served as president/CEO of West Plains Bank and Trust Company since 2017. He joined the bank in 2005 after serving as an associate attorney with Husch and Eppenberger LLC (now Husch Blackwell) in Springfield. In 2009, Gohn was named the bank’s president and chief operating officer. Gohn just completed a term as chairman-elect on MBA’s board of directors and previously served as MBA treasurer in 2021. He has chaired MBA’s Budget and Audit Committee, the Young Bankers Leadership Board of Directors and the VEBA Board of Trustees. He also served a three-year term on the American Bankers Association’s Community Bankers Council.

A fourth-generation banker, Gohn is the second individual from West Plains Bank and Trust Company to serve as MBA chairman. His father, S. David Gohn, chairman of the board for West Plains Bank and Trust Company, served as MBA chairman from 1999-2000.

At MBA’s convention, Patrick Kussman, president/CEO of Regional Missouri Bank in Marceline, was elected and installed as MBA chairman-elect. Tom Klebba, president of Legends Bank in Linn, was elected and installed as treasurer.
