    Festival, parade and fireworks show planned June 29 in Houston

    A first-annual festival, Independence Day Parade and fireworks show are among activities planned Saturday, June 29 in Houston.

    The City of Houston will host its first ever Summer Fest event Saturday, June 29 in downtown Houston.

    The event will include a barbecue contest, several vendors, local businesses and a car show. Live music will be provided by the Lone Pine Band out of Licking. It will take place on Grand Avenue and at the Lone Star Plaza.

    Festivities will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will be followed by the Independence Day Parade starting at 6 p.m. hosted by West Plains Bank. Lineup for the parade begins at 5:30 p.m.

    The American Legion Post 41 will give out free ‘Freedom Dogs’ from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Lone Star Plaza.

    The City of Houston will host its fireworks display at approximately 9 p.m. at the Houston Memorial Airport.
