    School board makes staffing changes in closed session

    Members of the Houston board of education handled personnel matters during a closed session Tuesday, July 9.

    The board:

    • Unanimously approved the resignation of Debra Farr as food service and Dakota Burchett as middle school assistant track coach.
    • Unanimously approved the employment of Tory Wade as middle school head girls’ basketball coach for the 2024-’25 school year, Jeff McNiell as graphic arts occupation instructor for the 2024-’25 school year contingent upon program implementation, Dana Wilson as middle school mathematics teacher for the 2024-’25 school year pending background check, Sheryl Hock as elementary teacher for the 2024-’25 school year pending background check and Natasha Hawkins as elementary special education teacher for the 2024-’25 school year.
    • Approved the employment of Daniel Narancich as high school science teacher for the 2024-’25 school year in a 5-0-1 vote. Jeff Gettys abstained.
    • Approved the employment of Aly Sykes as middle school English Language Arts (ELA) teacher for the 2024-’25 school year in a 5-1 vote. Marty Merckling voted no.
    • Held discussion concerning school protection officer review. No action was taken.

    Board member Dustin Hartman was absent. The closed portion of the meeting – which began at 7:26 p.m. – adjourned at 8:57 p.m.
