This AARP program pairs older adults with work opportunities at area nonprofits
After 12 years of retirement, Roy Pearson was ready for something to do. In April, the 74-year-old retired United Methodist Church pastor joined the AARP Foundation's Senior Community Service Employment Program, also known as SCSEP. The program partners seniors 55 and up with local nonprofits and government agencies in paid training assignments. Host agencies gain temporary staff at no cost and seniors have the opportunity to sharpen their soft and hard skills, while earning minimum wage. Participating seniors are paid through the AARP.

Carson Wentz avoided an injury walking to Chiefs camp and Patrick Mahomes wouldn't let him hear the end of it
Carson Wentz has had some rough injury luck during his NFL career, and he never regained his MVP-caliber form after a 2017 ACL tear with the Eagles. But nothing would have topped getting injured while walking *to* training camp. That’s nearly what happened on Sunday. But Wentz can be thankful...
FIRST WARN FORECAST: Chance for rain dwindles as heat returns
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Sunday turned out to be a spectacular day! Most of us were in the upper 70s and lower 80s in the afternoon. We do have a few isolated showers/thunderstorms that will be possible through early evening, but this activity is more miss than hit. Many of us will stay dry. If you are loving this cooler stretch, we do have one more day in the lower 80s before the temperatures climb later this week. Monday morning starts in the lower 60s, with lower 80s in the afternoon. There is another 20% chance for a pop-up shower or random rumble, but that is about it. No severe thunderstorm threat. The main weather story after Monday will be the gradual climb of temperatures back to late July standards. We are expecting mid-80s Tuesday and Wednesday with a return to the upper 80s by the end of this next week. Generally, no major heat is expected, but we could climb into the lower 90s for some next weekend. Moderate humidity could allow for it to feel slightly hotter than our actual air temperatures. There is no great chance of rain in the next week, so things could turn a little crispy through the end of July. Some of our computer models are hinting at a much hotter start to August.

Chiefs give biggest headache an intriguing lifeline
There's no need to rehash every instance over the past year and a half in which wide receiver Kadarius Toney has caused virtually everyone in or around the Kansas City Chiefs organization to pinch the bridge of their nose in dismay and pain. Of course, the most egregious incident was lining up offside against the Bills to nullify what would've been the game-winning touchdown pass on a trick play.
Chief in Danger of Losing Job Testing Out Surprise New Position
There was a belief that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney might not be on the roster this season as he was inactive for the final three games of the 2023 regular season and the entire playoff run. However, the Chiefs' brass led by head coach Andy Reid and...
